David D. Weinzweig
David D. Weinzweig was appointed to the Arizona Court of Appeals in December 2017. He is an Arizona native who received his B.A. from the University of Arizona and his J.D. from Arizona State University.
Before joining the Arizona Court of Appeals, Judge Weinzweig spent his career in private practice and the public sector. He represented corporate and government clients in commercial litigation at Lewis and Roca, specializing in antitrust law, and served three Arizona Attorneys General, defending dozens of high-profile complex and constitutional lawsuits and appeals. He also practiced constitutional and commercial litigation in trial and appellate courts at Ellman Weinzweig.
Judge Weinzweig has served on rules and practice committees, including the Civil Justice Reform Committee and the Local Rules of Practice Advisory Committee of the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona. He also helped build and thrice chaired a popular awards program to honor local attorneys for community and public service. He formerly served on the Arizona Commission of Judicial Performance Review and the Judicial Selection Advisory Committee of the City of Phoenix.
Judge Weinzweig teaches legal and persuasive writing to state and federal judges, law clerks and practicing lawyers at judicial colleges, bar associations and law schools nationwide. His book, Zen and the Art of Persuasive Writing, was released in January 2026 by the American Bar Association. He has authored and co-authored full chapters in authoritative treatises on antitrust law, corporate in-house legal practices and consumer protection.
